In the future, the art studio at Turmstraße 20 will not only be a meeting place for art lovers, but also for gourmets. Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft (SEG) has found new tenants for the gastronomic area: Sabine and Lars Ohters will open their café and restaurant in the summer. They plan to serve mainly a variety of desserts and popular classics made from regional ingredients.

With the annexed art studio located in the old town, Monheim’s art school offers an open space for contemporary fine arts. The first floor of the old mansion dating back from the turn of the 19th to 20th century has just undergone renovation. Here, you’ll find the gastronomic area with a terrace and a large room that can be booked for birthdays or weddings or other events. In the future, chef Lars Ohters and his wife, pastry chef and patissière Sabine Ohters, plan to offer lunch here, French-inspired patisserie in the afternoons, and a varied evening menu.

"Sabine and Lars Ohters are the perfect tenants for the property”, says Estelle Dageroth, managing director of SEG. "They have both already worked in high-end gastronomy, gaining experience in dealing with well-known artists in the process. They are enthusiastic about the idea of the art studio and open to cooperation. From the very beginning, we have been looking for tenants who can also ensure a further revitalization of the old town during the day, and this will certainly be the case here."

Sabine Ohters, a trained pastry chef and patissière, plans to offer her sweet creations especially in the afternoons and for dessert in the evenings. Lars Ohters serves German cuisine with international influences. His spectrum ranges from tried-and-tested classics to modern food pairing, which includes combinations that seem unusual at first glance. In addition sustainability and the cooperation with local partners, one thing is particularly important to the couple: "We would like to offer 'Gastronomy for Everyone',  matching the art workshop 'Art for Everyone'. We are very much looking forward to the upcoming task in this special surroundings.
